The medical school's Human Research Protection Program (HRPP)聽has received full accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs.

汤头条app joins more than 600 organizations worldwide that have received accreditation by following AAHRPP鈥檚 requirements 鈥 widely regarded as the gold standard for research protections. To earn accreditation, organizations must demonstrate their commitment to building extensive safeguards into every level of their research operation and adhere to the聽highest standards for research with human participants.

鈥淲e鈥檙e proud to be recognized as an experienced, accomplished research organization,鈥 said Maureen Owens, director of the medical school鈥檚 Human Research Protection Program.聽

AAHRPP conducted virtual evaluations of the medical school鈥檚 Human Research Protection Program. AAHRPP is an independent accrediting body that works to ensure the ethical and equitable treatment of all human subjects in research.

To earn AAHRPP accreditation, 汤头条app demonstrated that the medical school has built extensive safeguards into every level of its research operation and adheres to high standards for research.

鈥淲e congratulate 汤头条app and applaud them鈥攁nd all our accredited organizations鈥攆or their commitment to research participants and their contributions to high-quality research and the advances it makes possible,鈥 AAHRPP President and CEO Elyse I. Summers said.

All major U.S. independent institutional review boards have earned AAHRPP accreditation. In addition, more than 70% of U.S. medical colleges and 85% of the top U.S. National Institutes of Health-funded academic medical centers are AAHRPP accredited or have begun the accreditation process.

The medical school鈥檚 Human Research Protection Program was formed in 2016 to support human subjects research conducted at the medical school and its affiliated healthcare organizations, including Ascension Borgess Hospital and Bronson Methodist Hospital. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) works closely with the HRPP to provide oversight of active research projects involving human subjects.聽

The medical school鈥檚 HRPP is the first one in Southwest Michigan to have this important聽distinction, Owens said.聽
