Medical school welcomes Katherine Beenen, PhD, to the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine

The medical school welcomed Katherine Beenen, PhD, this month as the newest faculty member in the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.

Dr. Beenen began her duties at ÌÀÍ·Ìõapp on May 24 as an assistant professor and pediatric psychologist. Dr. Beenen is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Michigan and, prior to her new role at the medical school, she most recently served as a clinical psychologist at Developmental Enhancement Behavioral Health in Holland, Michigan.

Dr. Beenen earned her PhD and master’s degree – both in School Psychology – from Central Michigan University in 2017 and 2014, respectively. In 2019, she completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Integrated Behavioral Health in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Psychology, at the University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine. After her fellowship, Dr. Beenen worked as a pediatric psychologist for Primary Care Psychology Associates, LLC, in Chicago.

Prior to pursuing her PhD, Dr. Beenen gained professional experience as a clinician in Midland and Grand Rapids, Michigan, including a stint as a school psychologist for Grand Rapids Public Schools that concluded in 2017. After her work in Grand Rapids, Dr. Beenen completed a predoctoral internship in Integrated Behavioral Health and Pediatric Psychology at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Beenen is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Socieity of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and brings to the medical school several years of experience as a leader, teacher, and researcher.
