Biosketch

Andrew Benner, DO, is an anesthesiologist. He is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, East Lansing, Michigan and served as Secretary for Sigma Sigma Phi, National Honorary Osteopathic Academic & Service Fraternity. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. At the University of Michigan, he occupied a number of positions including member of the University of Michigan Anesthesiology Residency Interview Group, member of House Officers Quality and Safety Committee, President of the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists Resident Component, and American Society of Anesthesiologists House of Delegates Resident Component. He completed research in perioperative diagnosis and management of heart failure, development of Severity of Illness Clinical Key (SICK) scoring system to predict patient perioperative surgical risk outcomes, video-assisted laryngoscopy view optimization and intubation efficacy, and quality improvement studies on low MAP prevention as well as videography assessment review for patient safety and improved clinical outcomes during cardiac surgery. He received top 10% (90%ile) score recognition on his American Board of Anesthesiology Basic Examination. He is currently a practicing anesthesiologist with Kalamazoo Anesthesiology. His clinical, teaching, and research interests include medical education, quality and safety, healthcare administration/economics, and point-of-care ultrasonography.
